Happy Kids Early Learning was established by the Armenian Relief Society of Australia, Sosseh Chapter in 1986. We provide quality care and education for 23 children aged 2-6 years old from 7:30am to 6 pm.

Happy Kids was originally set up to support many Armenian families that lived in Sydney. Currently we have many Armenian families, as well as non-Armenian families that send their children to our centre.

We have a team of qualified, caring and experienced Armenian and non-Armenian educators who work in partnership with you and your child in forging a sense of ‘belonging, being and becoming’.

Our educational program encompasses a contemporary view on literacy, numeracy, science, art, music and language and has a focus on social and emotional development. The Armenian culture is embraced through our daily Armenian Group times and our Special Armenian Dance Program.

Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner School Playgroups
Glenaeon offers a range of Playgroups that are joyful, nurturing and supportive of the young child’s developmental stages.

Each Playgroup meets once a week and is led by an experienced Early Childhood Teacher who guides the group through the day’s activities – including stories and songs, circle activities and free-play both indoors and out.    A shared morning tea is provided and each week children take home their own baked bread and other handmade treasures created by parents during the course of the day. Our Playgroup room is furnished with quality wooden and handmade toys while the natural bush playground is a haven for exploration and active tactile play.

Toddler Playgroup  Wednesday 9.30 – 11am

A 90-minute session for children 1-2 years with an accompanying parent. This group provides a calm and nurturing environment where parents meet to discuss the joys and challenges of parenting while their children explore and play.

Ring-a-rosie Playgroup  Tuesday, Thursday 9.30 – 11.30am

A 2-hour session for children over 2 years of age with an accompanying parent. At this age the children are ready to practise their social skills – making friends, learning to share, and engaging in circle games and play with the adults around them. They experience the wonder of storytelling and activities like kneading dough to make their very own bread loaf to take home.

Cost: $30 per session.  Contact us for more information or bookings

Glenaeon Rudolf Steiner Preschool
The preschool caters for children between 3 and 5 years old. Glenaeon Preschool is an extension of the home environment. A warm, protective space where the children are stimulated by creative play, storytelling, singing, baking, paint and colour. For many children, this is their first experience away from the home and for many parents their first experience of Steiner education.

The Preschool program encourages children to enter the world at a natural pace. They are surrounded by treasures from nature, to assist in the development of an appreciation, respect and care for our world.

The Pre-School Program is available as either a two day program or a three day program from 9am to 3pm for children aged 3 years to 5 years (Children will ideally turn 3 by 1 January of their first year).

The Pre-School is a licensed long day care centre and for those needing longer hours there is an extended service available from 8.30am to 4.30pm. The Centre is open 48 weeks of the year, closing for 4 weeks in December and January.  Contact us for more information.

Soccajoeys is a fun and enjoyable recreational setting for boys and girls aged 2.5 - 8 years to learn and play the world’s most popular sport soccer.

Soccajoeys is about a great deal more than just developing a child’s control with the ball, it is about giving them a well-rounded start in their physical, social and educational development and developing the ‘whole child’.

Our team of accredited coaches have developed a non-competitive, non-elite program for kids to exercise and have fun whilst enjoying the company of other children their age whilst being introduced to the structured, early learning principles of soccer.

Contact us today on 1300 781 735 or www.soccajoeys.com.au to register your child to one of our locations across Sydney.

PARENT INFORMATION

Sibling Rivalry
Becoming an older brother or sister can be a confusing time for toddlers and preschoolers. Sibling rivalry is often identified when a toddler or preschooler starts to have one or all of the following behaviours:

Some potential sibling rivalry behaviours:

  • tantrums, anger and aggression
  • whingeing
  • regressive behaviour - refusing to use the toilet, wanting to use a bottle or nappies
  • losing interest in activities once enjoyed
  • ignoring the new baby
  • behaviour seems too good to be true or their behaviour is unbelievably difficult
  • more demanding
  • being withdrawn and more clingy - not want to play with friends or go to preschool
  • waking up in the middle of the night
  • wanting to get into bed with you

Things to prepare your toddler or preschooler for the arrival of a new baby:

  • Find opportunities for your toddler or preschooler to have contact with very young babies
  • Read books about babies or play with baby dolls
  • Take your toddler and preschooler to antenatal visits
  • Let your toddler or preschooler help organize the baby's bed and other equipment
  • If your toddler or preschooler will be going to regular or occasional child care it is helpful to start this prior to the birth of your baby
  • Encourage the carer to provide short periods of care before the baby is due, if this is not already happening. This will familiarize both the older child and the carer

Things that may reduce sibling rivalry:

  • Let your toddler or preschooler know when you're going to hospital. Even though it is hard, wake them don't just disappear. Sleep problems can start if the young child wakes and finds their parents have gone to hospital
  • While you are in hospital if possible your older child should be cared for in their own home
  • At the hospital visits be ready to give your older child a cuddle and all your attention before introducing them to the new baby
  • Even if your older child becomes upset when they have to leave you it is important that they continue to come for visits while you are in hospital
  • Have a gift from the newborn baby to give to the older sibling
  • Ask the older child to guess what her new brother or sister is feeling: is the baby hungry? or happy? or cold? This helps the older child to understand that this new arrival also has feelings
  • When you need to attend to the baby for lengthy periods ensure you know where your other child is and what they are doing - having a box of special toys or refreshments for them during this time can help
  • Keep on reassuring your older child that there is enough love to go around, even though you now have to share your time
  • Offer your older child regular (even if brief) periods of close bodily contact, like hugs and cuddles
  • Remember that toddlers and some preschoolers find it hard to wait. Don't always delay giving your toddler or preschooler some attention until the new baby is asleep
  • Remember that when a new baby arrives your older child can be confused and unprepared for the higher expectations that seem to be placed on them overnight
  • Reinforce positive behaviour by praising
  • Involve your older child in caring for the baby
  • Have special uninterrupted time for each childEnsure both parents are consistent in using family rules
  • Set limits and try to have a daily routine so that your older child feels safe and knows what to expect
  • If you make promises ensure that you provide what you promised
  • Remind people there are two children not just the baby
